The scene on Botanic Avenue
The PSNI have launched a murder investigation after the body of a man was found on Botanic Avenue in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The victim, a member of the Pakistani community, had been stabbed several times.
One person has been arrested in connection with the incident and is helping the police with enquiries.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Botanic Avenue early this morning and witnessed the incident, or anyone with any information that could assist this investigation to contact Detectives at Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number."
Alliance MLA for the area, Anna Lo, said: "I would condemn whoever is responsible for this man's death in the strongest possible manner.
"Local people are shocked at what has taken place. Botanic Avenue is a very popular area visited by many people who will be very saddened by this incident.
"My thoughts and sympathies go out to the family and friends of the victim. This will undoubtedly be a very difficult time for them."
