Three people have been stabbed during the night in separate incidents in Belfast.

Two separate gangs of loyalists and republicans from either side of the bridge attacked each other in the violence in the early hours of the morning.

In Montrose Street in East Belfast a 21-year-old was stabbed.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Neither of the victims have life-threatening injuries.

In Ligoniel, a 19-year-old man was stabbed shortly after 1am.

He is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

Police are seeking two men who left the Ligoniel area in a Renault Clio car after the attack.

Assistant Chief Constable Will Kerr the rest of the 11th night was peaceful.

"I am pleased that last night was one of the most peaceful in recent years and am encouraged by the responsible behaviour of the vast majority of people involved," said Kerr.

"I appreciate the efforts of all those involved in ensuring this was the case and I would continue to encourage everyone to work together to ensure that today passes off peacefully and that local communities are not disrupted with the violence witnessed in previous years."
