A 22-year-old man who had both knees blown to bits with a shotgun by the UDA is having his leg amputated – so he can teach his son to play football.
Stephen Clyde says he had to make the heart-breaking decision because his leg is so badly damaged he would never be able to run again.
“I’ve decided to have my right leg amputated above the knee so I can get a prosthetic leg,” says the Coleraine man.
“I have a one-year-old son and I want to teach him how to play football – if I keep the leg I’ll never be able to do that.
“They said the only other option was to stiffen the leg permanently but then I couldn’t run.
