The devastated family of Boston hit and run victim Eoin McGrory, said their final farewell to him on Sunday morning as the lay him to rest in County Donegal.

Family and friends gathered on Sunday to wake the young Derry man whose remains had been brought home from Boston accompanied by his grief stricken bride of just four months.

Shanique McCrory made the journey back to her husband’s native city accompanied by her daughter Monique and Eoin’s heartbroken mother Teresa.

On Sunday mass was said at Our Lady of Lourdes in Steelstown, Derry for the young step father of one who touched so many hearts.

His body was interned in Cockhill cemetery in Buncrana.

In the days leading up to his funeral wife Shanique spoke of her determination to achieve justice for the man she says she will love for the rest of her life.

Still reeling from the shock of his death she dismissed driver Ricky Prezioso’s claims that he is innocent and that he believed he had hit a pothole on the day of her husbands death.

Keen cyclist Eoin, who is originally form the Shantallow area of Derry, died at the scene last Thursday after he was hit by a garbage truck driven by 41-year-old Prezioso in Charlestown, Boston.

The father of one has been charged with leaving the scene after causing the death of the recently married Irish man.

At a court hearing he pleaded not guilty and was released on a $5000 yet Mr McGrory grieving widow hit out at his claims.

Just hours before she began the journey to Ireland with her husband’s remains she insisted she did not believe Prezioso’s claim of hitting a pothole.

“That’s not a good enough answer for me. I’m not agreeing with that,” Shanique McGrory said.

“I loved my husband. He did not deserve to die this way. I want justice to be served.” She insisted.

Shanique quest for justice is supported fully by Eoin’s shattered family who has also raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, struggling to stomach Prezioso’s not guilty plea.

“All I need is justice to be served. For my whole entire family, we are all mourning and I just need justice to be done.” Shanique added.

Eoin was the youngest of six children and had been living in America for the past 15 years.

His family had been planning to visit him when they received news of his death.

Grieving mum Teresa McGrory said: “We got the news from Boston early on Saturday morning. It was a terrible shock altogether. We didn’t expect anything like that at all.

“The last time he was home was around seven years ago. I was thinking of going out there this year. He loved the bike and was always out cycling. He just died at the scene. It’s just awful.

Eoin’s brother Phil paid tribute to his little brother.

“He was bubbly and funny. He’s my wee brother. There’s only 13 months between us. He just got married before Christmas. He was happy and content,” he revealed.
