A man in his 40s has been shot four times in what police are calling a 'paramilitary style' attack.
The attack happened in Lisfannon Park shortly after 10pm on Monday night.
The man was taken to hospital but his injuries are not said to be life threatening.
Sinn Féin Councillor Colly Kelly said: "There is no place for guns on the streets of our city. This is the third incident in recent weeks. The community does not want this and the people behind them need to stop."
SDLP Councillor Sean Carr said: "From what I understand a number of masked men entered the house and shot the man when he was lying on the sofa. I understand there were other people in the house at the time."
He added: "Last night, people I spoke to in the area were very angry at what had happened on their doorstep. They say those who carried out this attack are not acting in their name - nor do they represent the Bogside or Derry."
The police have urged anyone with information to contact them.
