Three men have appeared in court accused of murdering Matthew Goddard at an address on Cobham Street on Christmas Eve.

Two brothers, William Turner, 39, and James Turner, 29, and Christian Walker, 25, appeared at Laganside Courts today.

The solicitor acting for Christian Walker asked if  he could be tried separately from the two brothers.

He said there was "animosity" between the brothers and his client.

Walker, from Ribble Street, William Turner from Glenlea Grove and James Turner from Dunraven Court are jointly charged with the murder of Mr Goddard on a date between December 23-24 last year.

Mr Goddard was last seen alive at 6pm on December 23.

His widow wept as the men were led into the dock.

The court was interrupted after an outburst from a man in the public gallery who yelled at the defendants.

Judge Bernie Kelly fined the man £150 and a £15 offender levy for his outburst and gave him a stark warning that a judge has the power to jail anyone who interrupts the court.

The man later apologised to the judge, saying that Mr Goddard was one of his "best friends".
