Maud Kells
A County Tyrone woman has been shot while working as a missionary in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Maud Kells, 75, who received an OBE in the New Years Honours list, was shot twice in the shoulder by 'bandits' near her home in Mulina.
She is said to be recovering well in hospital and is speaking to people.
The former Royal Victoria Hospital nurse has been working in the Congo since the 60s.
She currently works with the Christian charity WEC International.
A spokesperson for the organisation, Norman Cuthbert, said: "Maud is a very strong lady. She has a very strong faith.
"I am sure Maud will recover although it has been a very frightening experience for her.
"In some ways, we would consider this miraculous that she wasn't more seriously injured."
Ms Kells' work includes training nurses in hospitals across the DRC, supervising construction and speaking at church.
