Portadown bomb scare device was 'not a bomb'

An object which was found under the car of a female army officer in Portadown was not an explosive device, police have confirmed.

The suspicious object was reported on Friday at around 5pm on the Corbracky Road in the town.

An alert was sparked after the suspicious object was found, but hours later police said the item was not explosive.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the object and a number of homes had to be evacuated.

Superintendent Simon Walls, said: "While police are keeping an open mind the item is not believed to be suspicious.

"Although this incident caused disruption to local residents, my colleagues and I are committed to keeping people safe and this operation proves that this is our utmost priority."
