Woman arrested over fatal Carryduff house fire

A 57-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a house fire which killed a 91-year-old man in Carryduff.

Samuel Carson died during the fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The woman was arrested on Thursday, with police saying they are treating the fire as a suspected arson.

It took 40 firefighters four hours to bring the blaze under control, such was its intensity.

The fire broke out at an oil tank on Thorndale Park before spreading to the oil tank of Mr Carson's property on the Hillsborough Road.  

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters rescued a 91-year-old man from the property and alongside ambulance personnel they carried out CPR but sadly the man died at the scene.

"Fire crews dealt with the fire involving the bungalow, the garage and the oil tanks by 5am. In total seven fire appliances and a command support unit and around 40 firefighters attended the incident."
