The National Union of Journalists has condemned a threat to a Northern Irish journalist by a dissident republican group.
In a statement issued on Monday, the NUJ said:
"The National Union of Journalists has strongly condemned threats issued by a dissident Republican group to a Northern Ireland journalist over the weekend.
Séamus Dooley, Irish Secretary, said the threat had been verified by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) to the reporter's senior editorial manager. He said:
'This is a verifiable threat which is being taken very seriously and is the latest attack on working journalists in Northern Ireland. We welcome the PSNI commitment to improved personal security but we find it deeply disturbing that journalists are still working under such threats.'"
