Naked ex-cop Stephen Abraham
Naked ex-cop Stephen Abraham threatened to kill a man before chasing him naked down the street.
The 51-year-old launched five mindless assaults against members of the public after stripping off and fleeing a friend’s house over the Twelfth period two years ago.
Abraham, who served in the force for 18 years, pleaded guilty at Dungannon Crown Court to assaulting two women and three men during the senseless spree of violence.
The Sunday World can reveal Abraham went on the rampage while visiting a female friend in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, on July 11, 2012.
Abraham had been staying with a woman at Coleshill Park in Enniskillen when he went out into the street in the buff.
“He was completely naked and he attacked people,” prosecuting lawyer Jonathan Lowry told the court.
The lawyer revealed how Abraham grabbed one woman, pinned her to the ground and punched her around the face.
His next victim was another woman who tried to come to the first woman’s aid.
The second victim was driving past and stopped her car to help when Abraham went over, opened the door of her car and hit her two or three times in the face with his fist.
A man on his way home also intervened, telling him to leave the woman alone.
Abraham threatened to kill him before chasing the confused and terrified man through the housing estate until he reached the safety of his own home.
Horrified onlookers contacted the emergency service system and when a paramedic arrived at the scene, to find Abraham rolling around on the ground, he was punched in the face when he tried to place a blanket over him.
Abraham told the paramedic he was the devil and he was going to kill him.
Abraham had been charged with assaulting the paramedic, occasioning him actual bodily harm but the charge was later reduced to one of common assault.
The court also heard that when the police arrived Abraham lashed out and spat at the officers, kicking the police driver.
The judge told Abraham he was a man with a “very difficult” background who had been medically retired after 18 years of public service.
“But for that, you would be going to prison immediately,” she stated.
She said she took a dim view of people who behave in a “gratuitously violent way” towards public servants, such as paramedics and police officers.
She told Abraham he would know very well from his previous employment how people suffer in such cases.
She sentenced him to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years.
“If you stay out of all trouble for the next three years, that will be the end of the matter,” she told Abraham.
He was also ordered to pay each of his five victim’s £500 compensation.
