Frederick Boyd wants bail to appear on the Jeremy Kyle show

Our exclusive video shows the 22-year old Newtownards man, who has asked a judge if he can be granted bail in order to appear on the Jeremy Kyle Show, mounting a pillar outside City Hall and shouting "no surrender."

Frederick Boyd told the High Court on Wednesday that he wants to go on to the show so that he can take a lie-detector test.

He wishes to take the test so he can apparently clear his name over separate allegations.

The man is currently facing charges of disorderly behaviour and a provocative act after he allegedly climbed a pillar outside Belfast City Hall back in January while draped in a Union Flag, and shouted profanities at passers by.

Mr Boyd's barrister said: "He tells me one of the reasons he's desperate to be released on bail is that he's determined to try and take a lie detector test.

"He thinks the best way to do that is on the Jeremy Kyle TV show."

Mr Justice Weir granted bail to the accused after his grandmother, Kathryn Boyd, took to the witness box and told the court that her grandson's anger stems from a loyalist campaign against them.

She said: "On Remembrance Sunday a group of paramilitaries beat me and my grandson had to watch that, and they wrecked my kitchen."

"This is why he feels so bitter about things."

She also confirmed to Justice Weir that she would move in with her grandson in Larne.

Justice Weir then addressed Frederick Boyd, saying: "You're only 22 years of age and you look about 45.

"You can't go on like this. You have to get your life sorted out."
