PSNI officers have discovered cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £50,000 in Belfast.

A number of cannabis plants and growing equipment were seized during searches of two buildings on Wednesday night.

Police were called to an address in the Wandsworth Crescent area of Belfast after reports of anti-social behaviour.

Officers searched a house found plants with an estimated street value of £5,500 and growing equipment.

They arrested a 30-year-old on suspicion of a number of drugs offences and he remains in custody.

Then, at around 11.15pm on Wednesday, police searched a property in the Greenville Road area and found cannabis plants inside with an estimated street value of £50,000.

East Belfast Area Commander, Chief Inspector Darrin Jones said: “We know drugs are an issue of concern to local communities and officers have been working closely with the local community in East Belfast to tackle the issue of drug supply and distribution.

“These seizures illustrate our commitment to removing drugs from the area.”
