Alliance MLA Naomi Long says a petrol bomb on her Newtownards Road office won't force her out.

Three petrol bombs were thrown at the party office on Tuesday night at around 11pm and two men were seen running away from the blaze.

Windows were smashed and scorch damage was caused to the building in the attack.

Ms Long said: "I don't want to speculate as to who might be behind this attack but if there's anyone who still believes after all this time that me or my colleagues will be intimidated out of east Belfast I can reassure them that will not happen. These attacks are not just wrong they are utterly futile."

"Thankfully the security we have in place and the very swift reaction of the Police Service and the Fire Service meant the damage was entirely superficial."

She added: "There is scorch damage and smoke damage to the building and obviously broken windows where they threw masonry at the first floor windows to break them in order to try and get the petrol bombs inside, but the windows didn't break completely and the damage is to the exterior."

First Minister Peter Robinson condemned the attack.

He said: "I condemn without reservation the senseless attack on the East Belfast Alliance Party office. No cause ever advanced by such criminality."
